It’s a fact. An expensive price tag does not always mean better value. How many times have you spent money on a so-called expensive item only to realise that it’s faulty and so not worth the money that you spent on it?
I remember I bought my mother a brand name bag. In less than a year, her 100% genuine leather bag was peeling. I was annoyed. Don’t get the wrong idea, the bag was less than $100 USD. But I expected that it would last a long time because of the name that was attached to it.
This then brings up the idea of quality. I expected the pricier, brand name bag to be of a better quality than a cheaper no name comparison. After all, I would not have spent that money with the expectation of spending the same amount on the same item so soon. I read an article which suggested that the quality of an item is determined by what the customer gets out of it and willing to pay for it. But “expensive” should equal quality, no?
I’ve heard people say that they must wear brand named clothing and shoes; and would never be caught wearing no-name items. But my question to them is if they are paying for quality or a name. If I spent $75 on a plain, white tee shirt, do I have a guarantee that my white tee will remain brilliant white and develop no holes?
I guess it all comes down to how badly you need or want the item. If it’s something that you can not live without, then the price will not matter. And I know that any feelings of doubt about the price will sail away as long as the need is that urgent. I once read that the value of an item is determined by its value to the owner.
What do you think?
